Come See British Customs Builds at IMS

December 3rd, 2013 No comments

The British Customs "Dirt Bike" in the Triumph Booth at IMS San Mateo.

British Customs is honored to be included in the Triumph Motorcycles booth at the Progressive International Motorcycle Shows. The manufacturer has poured some heart and soul into its display by showcasing a handful of modified builds from companies like British Customs.

The “Vintage Vendetta” (Triumph Speedmaster) and the “Dirt Bike” (Triumph Scrambler) are just two of the latest builds from British Customs. You might recognize the “Dirt Bike” from the Barber Vintage Festival where stunt rider Ernie Vigil put it through its paces, or perhaps in the British Customs “Desert to Mountains” video. Believe it or not, both of these Triumphs started out bare-bones stock and now feature nothing more than a handful of bolt-on parts from British Customs. Some parts improve performance; others make the bikes look even better. Together they can make any bike McQueen-cool. All of them are affordable, easy to install, and are available through www.British-Customs.com.

Now you can see the “Vintage Vendetta” and “Dirt Bike” up close and personal in the Triumph Motorcycles booth on the Progressive International Motorcycle Shows tour. The Triumph display will also feature the Klock Werks Thunderbird Café Racer, Elena Myers’ AMA Pro Road Race Daytona, the Lowbrow Customs Double Vision land speed racer, the Bonneville Performance 1200cc Street Tracker and Team Empire drift bikes.

It’s becoming more and more clear that motorcyclists want to modify their bikes and make them their own, and the Triumph display at Progressive International Motorcycle Shows is a perfect example of how the Triumph community can come together to help people achieve their unique visions. British Customs is proud to be a part of the revolution.

The Hell On Wheels Hot August Nights, Dirt Track Classic

August 14th, 2013 1 comment

British Customs was a proud sponsor of Meatball’s 1st Hell On Wheels Dirt Track Event. Meatball’s events are motorcycling at its purest. There are limited restrictions and endless possibilities for a good time. It sounded like a great platform for British Customs to do some testing and have some fun, so we entered three bikes into the event.

Bike #1:  Our first bike to enter the Hell On Wheels Challenge was the British Customs Desert Sled. The Desert Sled is a stripped dirt bike inspired Bonneville. Complete with dirt bike style fenders, stripped down controls, a new BC prototype drag pipe system, and knobby dirt bike tires this Triumph Bonneville was ready to dominate the track. The Desert Sled was ridden and tested by Sean D. who took three 1st place finishes and one 2nd place. Congratulations!

Bike #2:  Our second bike to enter the Hell On Wheels event was British Customs’ own team members daily rider “June”. Heath C.’s Triumph Bonneville was brought to the shop already rocking 95,000 cross country touring miles. Inspired by the infamous daredevil, Evel Knievel, “June” was overhauled for the track. Heath’s goal was to create a bike that he could dirt track but still ride comfortably on the street. The project began by reviewing the stock Triumph Bonneville’s driveline and controls. We started with the wheels and replaced the stock rims with 19” Excel rims and DOT flat track tires. Next we swapped out the risers and replaced the stock controls with upgraded 7/8” controls. Lastly, we installed a set of British Customs prototype Flat Track Triple Trees.  Only his second time racing at a dirt track event, Heath took home a 2nd and 4th place finish and slid out two times pushing his Bonneville as hard as he could.

Bike #3:  Our last bike to enter the challenge was a Triumph Scrambler acquired after the filming of the re-make “The Great Escape”. We recently built the Scrambler into an adventure bike, but quickly realized we needed a street tracker in the shop. Brian Catterson, former Editor of Motorcyclist Magazine, rode the project tracker and took home a 3rd place finish.

We arrived to the Perris ¼ mile dirt track with the goal of testing a few new designs and came out winners. It was great to see the Modern Triumphs go head to head with lighter more nimble bikes and come out on top. We proved that, with little to no modification, the Triumph can easily go from the street to the track! We will be posting video of the action and details of each build in the upcoming weeks. First Annual Iron and Resin Hooligan Hoedown

April 12th, 2013 No comments

Iron and Resin is a clothing manufacturer from Ventura, CA who embodies the motorcycle surf culture.  In a mass produced, disposable world, Iron and Resin “forges” their products here in California.  The InR crew is a a good group and they’ve been building some great momentum.  They’re pushing back their usual “Second Sunday” ride to coincide with their First Annual Hooligan Hoedown.  If you’re not familiar with them, definitely check out their site.  If you’re anywhere near So Cal, come out April 20th for what will be a real great time with live music, good food and fun crew.

GO HERE to purchase tickets for the hoedown.

Racing Starts This Weekend

March 21st, 2013 No comments

Grab your family and friends and join us this weekend, March 22-24, at NOLA in Avondale, Louisiana for a weekend of racing.

As the racers start to arrive in Avondale, Louisiana for the first race of the season; anticipation begins to build. As each racer works to complete the final touches to their Triumph Thruxton they start to prepare mentally for thrilling race ahead. They imagine the stress and excitement as they work their way to the front of the line, the way the tires feel on the asphalt as they push their motorcycles to their limit in hope to get one position closer to the finish line. It’s an adrenaline filled experience that a racer will never forget.

Have you ever dreamed of racing your Triumph Thruxton? Well now is your chance! The American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association (AHRMA) has a spec class called the Thruxton Cup TransAtlantic Challenge created specifically for the Triumph Thruxton. This class was created for racers of all ages and skill levels, ranging from beginners to experts. With minimal modifications, you can be one of the many who have decided to live out a dream of racing classic Triumph café racers.
